Week 5, a little late

I'm determined to finish 23thingsnat, but I give up on Downloadables. I was able to check out books on my work computer and at home, but never able to open them up to listen to. I knew this would be a problem at the library, but thought it would be a breeze at home (I know- so silly). I think the main glitch was that I'm using a MAC, which isn't allowing anything to open, and now I'm giving up.
I do have to say, however, that even without that frustration, this would have still been an aggravating excercise. The selection of titles to download weren't that great (especially children's books, and I am a children's librarian) and searching for them via NetLibrary took a while. I suppose if you are looking for one specific title, then doing a NetLibrary or catalog search wouldn't be that bad, but just browsing wasn't fun.
And looking up exact titles, only to not find them listed wasn't cool either.
I'd be interested in seeing statistics as to how many people use this service throughout the county; for me, it's easier to put the CD on hold and listen to it that way.
(And this is especially true using MAC supported equipment/systems.) All in all,
very frustrating. I would hate to have to talk a patron though this excercise over the phone (that being said, I quess I'll have to revisit this process in the future, to see if I can finally conquer it.)

Over & out,
